Job Title: Lab Technician VJob Description The Lab Technician V performs advanced routine medical laboratory tests that support the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. This role works under the supervision of a medical technologist while providing leadership within the laboratory, overseeing equipment setup and maintenance, reviewing test data and pathology results, and ensuring that all laboratory work meets established quality and safety standards. Responsibilities Supervise the setup, adjustment, maintenance, and cleaning of medical laboratory equipment to ensure reliable and accurate operation.Review and approve the results of tests and experiments, confirming that all findings conform to established specifications and quality standards.Use specialized mechanical and electrical devices to verify test results and support accurate diagnostic outcomes.Review and validate recorded test data for accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation in laboratory records and information systems.Examine pathology results when abnormal cells are found and ensure appropriate documentation and follow-up within established protocols.Conduct chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood and urine using microscopes or automatic analyzers to detect abnormalities or diseases.Enter laboratory findings and test results into computer systems and laboratory information systems (LIS) with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.Perform blood tests for transfusion purposes and complete blood counts in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards.Collect blood or tissue samples from patients while strictly observing principles of asepsis to ensure safe and contamination-free specimen collection.Provide leadership and mentoring to laboratory staff by offering guidance, support, and constructive performance feedback.Work independently to manage workload, prioritize tasks, and meet turnaround times for laboratory testing.Maintain compliance with laboratory procedures, safety guidelines, and quality control measures in all aspects of testing and equipment handling. Essential Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills to document results clearly and collaborate effectively with laboratory and clinical staff.High level of attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills to identify discrepancies and resolve issues in test data and equipment performance.Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage time effectively to handle multiple tasks and testing priorities.Strong leadership and mentoring skills to support colleagues and provide constructive performance feedback.In-depth knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries and diseases through laboratory testing.Strong ability to analyze data and accurately document and record results in laboratory records and information systems.Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) for entering, managing, and reviewing test data.Previous experience in clinical or hospital laboratory settings, working with medical laboratory equipment and procedures.10 years of experience in medical technology or a related scientific discipline.Vocational or technical laboratory training providing hands-on experience with laboratory procedures and equipment.High school diploma or GED. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate's degree in medical technology or related field is preferred.Additional vocational or technical laboratory training that enhances familiarity with laboratory operations and safety.Experience working in a clinical laboratory or hospital laboratory environment.Ability to mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative, quality-focused team culture. Work Environment This role is based in a medical laboratory environment that focuses on diagnostic testing and analysis to support patient care. You will work with microscopes, automatic analyzers, mechanical and electrical laboratory devices, and laboratory information systems (LIS) on a daily basis. The position involves handling blood, urine, and tissue samples, following strict aseptic techniques and safety protocols to maintain a clean and controlled environment. Work typically requires standing for extended periods, performing repetitive testing procedures, and carefully documenting results in computerized systems. The culture emphasizes accuracy, reliability, and adherence to established laboratory procedures, with opportunities to provide leadership and mentoring within a collaborative team setting. Standard professional laboratory attire, including appropriate protective equipment such as lab coats and gloves, is required to ensure safety and compliance with laboratory standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Centerville, TN. Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $33.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
