About the Role

MPS - Mankato is looking for a part-time Lab Tech with hours primarily between 2 PM and 6 PM, Monday through Friday. Weekend work opportunities occur on average every six weeks, typically on Sundays. Starting salary range: $16/hr - $18/hr.

In your first year and beyond, you will focus on results and innovation while contributing to key areas:

• Safety: You’ll become OSHA 10 Certified, attend monthly safety meetings, and apply safety knowledge on the production floor.
• Teamwork: You’ll join a cross-functional team with in-depth process knowledge, maximizing productivity, efficiency, and operational improvements.
• Customer Impact: You’ll conduct testing and provide customer material certifications for industries such as heavy trucking and agriculture, upholding the highest quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the implementation and execution of laboratory processes and improvement projects.
• Performs laboratory testing, chemical and microstructure analysis, and calibration and physical strength testing.
• Ensures lab equipment is properly maintained and in good working order.
• Maintains daily production records for process management and/or material certification.
• Determines and monitors appropriate parts and consumable stocking levels for the laboratory.
• Works with a team to research and purchase laboratory equipment.
• Maintains a calibration database for laboratory and production equipment, including part-specific gauges, and arranges for current calibration.
• Writes customer material certifications.
• Provides feedback on lab process effectiveness to supervisor and suggests improvements for operations or processes.
• Performs physical and cognitive tasks to promote safety in the work environment.
• Attends work during regularly scheduled hours and outside regular hours as necessary.
• Communicates and interacts effectively with employees, supervisors, external organizations, and customers.
• Demonstrates agile development by using computer programs for data entry and learning to operate various types of machinery and equipment safely.

Requirements

• A strong, stable work background with mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand tools.
• Ability to complete laboratory testing, chemical and microstructure analysis, physical strength testing, and calibration of lab equipment.
• High School Diploma or GED; additional schooling in chemistry is preferred or equivalent work experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively and flexibility to occasionally work outside of assigned shift.
• Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook for communicating results.

Pay

Starting salary range: $16/hr - $18/hr.
