Lab Technician

Compensation: $70,000 - $75,000 + annual bonus + comprehensive benefits package

About the role

The Lab Technician will provide analytical support through the analysis of products and system fluids to control the quality of end products, meeting the needs of both customer and company. The role involves detecting variances, offering solutions to improve deficiencies, and supporting the Plant Manager in operating the facility safely and efficiently while adhering to Responsible CARE, ISO 9001, and all applicable laws and regulations. Responsibilities

• Laboratory Tasks (70%):
  • Perform sampling and analysis of products according to schedules, SOPs, and Work Instructions.
  • Utilize lab instrumentation such as UV/VIS, Auto titrator, and other advanced technical equipment.
  • Maintain inventory, proper usage, labeling, and storage of chemicals and supplies.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained and spare parts are available to minimize downtime.
  • Suggest changes to improve product quality, operational efficiency, and analytical accuracy.
  • Assist operations with special tests or analyses as requested.
  • Monitor and maintain pond NPDES within EPA standards; perform required testing and coordinate outside laboratory testing.
  • Troubleshoot issues and develop new testing methodologies as part of a team.
  • Prepare Certificates of Analysis for product shipments and maintain records.
  • Ensure proper labeling and packaging for shipment of product samples.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, logbooks, and daily reports of analytical results.
  • Order supplies following Chemtrade’s process.
• Continuous Improvement (20%):
  • Work with team members to solve problems and fulfill manufacturing objectives.
  • Follow and maintain 6-S/Lean principles; participate in Lean Six Sigma events (e.g., Kaizen).
  • Generate Statistical Process Control (SPC) graphs, including root cause analysis for trends and Out Of Control (OOC) points.
  • Make data-driven recommendations for improvement to plant management.
  • Participate in quality discussions as an expert when requested.
• Other Duties (10%):
  • Participate in Responsible CARE and RC 14001 environmental activities.
  • Update laboratory procedures and SOPs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.

Requirements

• Minimum of an Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred) in a science or related field; experience may be substituted.
• Demonstrated team and leadership skills, with a desire to participate in a competitive, high-visibility business endeavor requiring high-quality standards.
• Experience in calibration, troubleshooting instrument issues, and analytical methods is desirable.
• Essential skills: attention to detail, adaptability, self-starter mentality, and strong communication.
