Lab Tech 2 Blood Bank

About the role

This position is located at Baylor Scott & White Health – BUMC Downtown Dallas, TX, within the Transfusion – Blood Bank department. The shift is evening (7 days on, 7 days off) from 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM.

Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in specimen processing and phlebotomy within a specialized transfusion hospital department. This experience should demonstrate proficiency in handling blood samples, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and working effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment. Familiarity with transfusion protocols and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Conducts routine laboratory procedures where the range of possible errors is limited.
• Sorts, labels, and records patient specimens.
• Sets up specimens, materials, and equipment in preparation for Medical Technologists to perform tests.
• Operates centrifuge, simplex timers, cell washer, and other laboratory equipment in completing assigned duties.
• Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies.
• Maintains effective communication and working relationships with all laboratory personnel, other disciplines, and external customers.
• Participates in laboratory projects and educational activities.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• At least 2 years of experience in specimen processing and phlebotomy within a specialized transfusion hospital department.
• Phlebotomy skills for all age groups.
• Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions.
• Skill in the use of computers and related software applications.
• Knowledge of safety and infection control standards.
• Ability to work in a team environment.

Skills

• Proficiency in handling blood samples and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Familiarity with transfusion protocols.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
