Lab Support Technician III (Non-Exempt)
About the role
The Laboratory Support Technician (LST III) is part of the provider care team, acting in a support capacity for reports, data, and scheduling functions of the laboratory. This position is responsible for the accurate, timely, and effective provision of laboratory support mechanisms, exhibiting excellent customer service skills in line with Mercy Signature Service Standards.
Responsibilities include the skillful acquisition of all required types of specimens for laboratory testing using safe, accurate, professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies. The LST III will handle all processing, transport, and referral of laboratory specimens and reports, perform limited laboratory testing, and assist technologists in appropriate test methods.

Responsibilities
- Acquire all required types of laboratory specimens using safe, accurate, and professional methodologies.
- Process, transport, and refer all types of laboratory specimens and reports as required.
- Perform limited laboratory testing and assist technologists in appropriate test methods.
- Maintain HIPAA confidentiality and adhere to lab policies.
- Exhibit excellent customer service in all interactions.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- One year of phlebotomy or clinical laboratory experience (required).
- Previous Mercy LST II designation or equivalent experience (required).
- Satisfactorily complete facility-specific competencies (checklist, written examination, management observation, etc.) to advance to the next job level.
- No active disciplinary actions or performance improvement plans.
- Successfully complete the probationary period.
Preferred Qualifications
- College-level coursework in Chemistry, Biology, or other sciences.
- Phlebotomy preceptor experience.
