Lab Support Technician I (Non-Exempt)

About the role

The Lab Support Technician (LST I) is part of the provider care team, acting in a support capacity for reports, data, and scheduling functions of the laboratory. This position provides accurate, timely, and effective laboratory support while exhibiting excellent customer service skills in line with Mercy Signature Service for all internal and external customer interactions.

Responsibilities

• Skillfully acquire laboratory specimens for testing using safe, accurate, effective, and professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies.
• Process, transport, and refer all types of laboratory specimens and reports as required.
• Complete all departmental checklists for the LST I position to achieve required competencies, as observed by laboratory management or designee.
• Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with Mercy’s mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma, G.E.D., or enrollment in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum.
• Successful completion of probationary period.
• No active disciplinary actions or active performance improvement plans.

Preferred Qualifications

• College-level Chemistry, Biology, or other science courses.
• Previous experience in a clinical laboratory.
