Lab Supervisor - Microbiology

About the role
LabCorp is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to join our Microbiology team in Tampa, FL. This role involves supervising day-to-day operations, ensuring accurate and timely test results, and mentoring laboratory personnel. You will play a key role in process improvements, regulatory compliance, and maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency in a high-volume laboratory environment.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Microbiology department
- Ensure laboratory tests are accurately performed and results are reported in a timely manner
- Directly supervise, train, and mentor laboratory personnel
- Monitor daily workflow and schedule adequate assay coverage
- Ensure all shifts in the department are properly staffed
- Research and resolve production errors; escalate when necessary
- Engage in continuous process and service-level improvements
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained through Quality Control
- Prepare and maintain Quality Assurance records and documents
- Evaluate new process improvements and make recommendations
- Meet regularly with direct reports to provide coaching and feedback
- Perform bench work as needed and maintain proficiency in technical operations
- Ensure all work complies with state and Federal regulations
- Administer and manage policies and procedures
- Process and maintain payroll and personnel files
- Perform administrative duties as needed
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
- 5+ years of clinical laboratory testing experience
- Microbiology Supervisor FL State License
- Understanding of laboratory operations, policies, and procedures
- Experience working in a high-volume laboratory environment
- Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and relevant state regulations
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Proficiency with computers and laboratory information systems
- High attention to detail, strong communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to make decisions in a changing environment
- Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
- Ability to pass a standardized color blindness test
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
- 6+ months of supervising or leading a team
- ASCP or AMT certification
