About the role
The Lab Supervisor at Red Star Yeast plays a crucial role in overseeing and coordinating the laboratory technician team. They ensure timely and accurate results reporting, proficiency testing, safety and procedural trainings, and continuous improvement of laboratory programs.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates an unwavering commitment to Lesaffre's safety-first culture by strictly following all safety protocols and participating in required safety programs
- Leads and supports the Company’s Safety Values and Policies
- Primary function of this position is to supervise laboratory technicians
- Interfaces with supervisors and operators, maintenance workers and general service operators in collaborative fashion
- Ensures samples are received and checked into laboratory to maintain sample flow
- Trains and explains needed maintenance on all lab equipment
- Requests supplies located outside the lab
- Ensures on time and accurate testing for internal and external customers
- Trains laboratory technicians to perform accurate lab analysis
- Generates and maintains staff schedule to ensure optimum laboratory coverage
- Supervises the maintenance and calibration of lab equipment
- Reviews and maintains files related to QC testing
- Reviews and verifies lab results, reports Out of specification and starts investigations
- Maintains monitoring of results throughout the day, checks calculations, watches for abnormal results, requests repeat tests, and audits technician’s procedures
- Responsible and accountable for the safety of all assigned personnel
- Spend a minimum of 75% of time on the shopfloor
- Performs necessary functions of a lab technician in peak times or for absences
- Ensures all lab techs perform required analysis
- Reviews results and presents to the Lab Leadership each lab tech’s proficiency and capability to provide accurate lab results
- Tracks all repeat analysis in the lab and presents this data to the lab each month
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, Chemistry or Food Science required
- 5 years of lab technician or analyst experience
- 2 to 5 years' experience in similar supervisor position
- Experience training and/or building teams
Qualifications
- Experience in chemistry/microbiology lab and baking related skills
- The ability to use MS Windows particularly MS Office programs
- The ability to prioritize and organize tasks
- The ability to make decisions to repeat tests independently or directed by manager
- The ability to be detail oriented and safety minded
