About the role
Under the direction of the Director or designee, provides leadership and technical expertise, coordinates workflow, manages staff scheduling and payroll functions, and performs training and quality activities. Ensures that testing is completed in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with regulatory guidelines and organizational policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Supervises the employees of assigned area ensuring efficiency of workflow and continuity of services
- Ensures completion of employee departmental orientation, competency testing, compliance training and other mandatory instructions
- Ensures efficiency and productivity by monitoring the production status and directing the workflow and people resources to meet deadlines and standards
- Provides oversight and supervision of Lab Assistants, Lab Technicians, Medical Technologists and Med Tech Leads
- Participates in validations, projects and monitoring key performance indicators
- Participates in the ongoing monitoring for each testing process to identify errors or potential problems leading to errors and takes effective and preventive corrective actions when indicated
- Performs Medical Technologist bench work as needed
- Participates in an on-call rotation
Requirements
The primary shift will be afternoon hours starting at 200 pm through 1030 pm. Flexibility is expected. May include occasional weekends and holidays.
Qualifications
- Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, biological science or related field from an accredited college or university. Three (3) or more years in a clinical laboratory, preferably blood banking environment including one (1) or more years’ experience in supervision and management experience or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations and Designations: Valid and current Florida Technologist license in Immunohematology or Blood Banking, supervisor license preferred. In certain specialty laboratories performing HLA, molecular testing or patient testing, other Florida licenses may be required.

- Basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
