Lab Coordinator - Geology and Geological Engineering
Job Summary
Provides technical lab support by independently performing basic lab and research-related tasks to ensure accurate research results that can expand on the knowledge of the field of study. This position coordinates the daily functions of education and research labs in the department at the Geology and Geological Engineering.
Job Description
- Evaluates lab research methodologies and provides recommendations in alignment with established objectives and strategic initiatives.
- Manages lab equipment and supplies to ensure optimal and safe operation.
- Affords hardware and software support for faculty and students.
- Assists and troubleshoots projects by helping students build instruments and circuits; orders parts or supplies as needed.
- Creates preventive maintenance schedules and work details.
- Collaborates with students to provide technical training as needed.
- Implements policies, procedures, and standards for the operation of the department labs.
- Evaluates computer and data communication equipment and renders opinions on effectiveness in resolving certain technical requirements and meeting certain specifications.
- Establishes specifications standards for computer systems and peripherals, and data communication systems.
- Coordinates and participates in the technical training of students, as needed.
- Responds to requests to participate/assist in community outreach programs/activities for the University of Mississippi and area schools.
Essential Functions
- Captures and maintains the daily functions of the laboratories in regards to equipment repair, replacement, or ordering parts.
- Interacts with faculty and makes recommendations for upgrades in the lab as needed.
- Assists students, as well as, troubleshoots projects for students.
- Provides hardware and software support for faculty and students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience related to the above described duties.

Compensation
$22.55 - $33.83
