About the role

The Laboratory Coordinator position plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Computer Science & Engineering Technology laboratories at the University of Houston - Downtown. This role supports the educational and research activities of faculty, staff, and students.

Responsibilities

  • Cook up and oversee daily lab operations.
  • Provide technical and instructional support to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Partner with Environmental Health & Safety personnel to implement and maintain safety procedures.
  • Supervise, train, and support student workers and part-time laboratory personnel.
  • Procure, maintain, and inventory laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Manage laboratory budgets and ensure resources are utilized effectively.
  • Research, develop, and support laboratory experiments as approved.
  • Aid faculty and research personnel in conserving resources and supporting research initiatives.
  • Provide specialized classroom instruction when needed.
  • Ensure laboratory facilities remain safe, organized, and operational.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three (3) years of related experience; or
  • Associate's degree in an Engineering discipline with ten (10) years of related experience.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of safe laboratory operational practices and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience managing budgets, supplies, and equipment.
  • The ability to effectively supervise, train, and mentor student employees.
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to collaborate with diverse groups of students, faculty, researchers, and staff.
