Responsibilities
- Greet patients and verify orders.
- Collect and process specimens, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Prepare, label, and process specimens, documenting accurately and adhering to infection control guidelines.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot lab equipment; document quality control and proficiency testing.
- Verify lab orders and medical necessities; complete ABNs and correct billing codes as needed.
- Enter and manage data in the Electronic Health Record (EHR); review and correct billing reports.
- Maintain supply inventory; stock areas appropriately and communicate needs to supervisor.
- Provide patient-centered service by communicating test procedures, results, and follow-up instructions clearly and compassionately.
- Assist with clerical duties including faxing, copying, filing, scheduling, and answering phone calls.
- Serve as a resource for colleagues and patients.
- Follow safety, infection control, and universal precaution standards; maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Deliver patient care through patient preparation, vital sign collection, and documentation.
- Assist with various procedures, exams, and diagnostic equipment (e.g., tympanometry, spirometry).
- Maintain aseptic techniques during preparation, procedures, and medication administration.
Requirements
- Comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
- Completion of medical terminology or phlebotomy training preferred.
- Previous laboratory or phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association or Red Cross required within 30 days of hire; must be maintained.
- Mandatory Reporter training for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse required within 3–6 months of hire; must be maintained.
- Proficient in basic computer skills (Windows environment, web-based navigation, email, MS Office).
- Ability to work with diverse groups of people in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
- Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
