Lab Assistant I

About the role

Provides phlebotomy expertise, decision making, and problem solving skills based on in-depth knowledge of phlebotomy procedures. Performs the collection, receipt in computer, processing, and delivery of patient specimens for tests performed by the laboratory.

Education and experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an approved phlebotomy training program or one year of proven experience in Hospital, Reference, or Physician Office Lab required.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

• Exceptional customer service skills
• Proficiency in utilization of personal computer skills

Working conditions and physical requirements

• Frequent prolonged standing/walking
• Occasional lifting of supplies/equipment up to 25 lbs
• Continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person
• Continuously exhibiting manual dexterity and mobility
• Frequently reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching
• Continuous ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less, to judge distance and space relationships, to bring objects into focus, and to distinguish and identify different colors
• Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes
• Minimal noise levels
• Much exposure to computer work
• Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock
• Some exposure to infectious disease while performing job-related tasks
• Some exposure to hazardous chemicals
• Occasional exposure to radiation
• Travel between facilities as required
