About the role
Provides phlebotomy expertise, decision making, and problem solving skills based on in-depth knowledge of phlebotomy procedures. Performs the collection, receipt in computer, processing, and delivery of patient specimens for tests performed by the laboratory.
Education and experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an approved phlebotomy training program or one year of proven experience in Hospital, Reference, or Physician Office Lab required.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Proficiency in utilization of personal computer skills
Working conditions and physical requirements
- Frequent prolonged standing/walking
- Occasional lifting of supplies/equipment up to 25 lbs
- Continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person
- Continuously exhibiting manual dexterity and mobility
- Frequently reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching
- Continuous ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less, to judge distance and space relationships, to bring objects into focus, and to distinguish and identify different colors
- Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes
- Minimal noise levels
- Much exposure to computer work
- Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock
- Some exposure to infectious disease while performing job-related tasks
- Some exposure to hazardous chemicals
- Occasional exposure to radiation
- Travel between facilities as required
