Lab Assistant I

About the role

The Laboratory Assistant I supports and provides customer service to the clinical laboratory department. They are responsible for processing specimens and performing waived or moderate testing as directed by the Clinical Laboratory Manager or Director. Duties include pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical tasks as outlined in this facility's procedures.

Responsibilities

• Receive, process, label, and distribute specimens
• Test specimens (waived or moderate) as indicated
• Communicate with nursing and laboratory staff regarding specimen issues
• Understand laboratory specimens and HIS/LIS computer systems
• Perform clerical duties as needed
• Follow established protocols and procedures to ensure quality patient results

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Preferred phlebotomy experience
• Ability to read, write, comprehend English, use computers, and process paperwork
• Professional telephone etiquette and effective verbal/written communication skills
• Problem-solving ability in complex situations
• Organizational skills, self-motivation, and fast-paced environment adaptability
• Assigned shift availability
• Comfortable handling human specimens

Qualifications

• Training in unpacking and putting away inventory items
• Assistance in completing training
• Performs other duties as assigned by the manager

Pay

This job will be authorized 0.01 hours bi-weekly.
