Lab Assistant I

About the role

The Laboratory Assistant I supports and provides customer service to the clinical laboratory department. This role involves receiving, processing, labeling, and distributing specimens, as well as performing waived or moderate testing as directed by the Clinical Laboratory Manager or Director. Duties include pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Receive, process, label, and distribute specimens
• Perform waived or moderate testing as indicated
• Communicate with nursing and laboratory staff regarding specimen issues
• Understand and follow established protocols and procedures
• Assist in unpacking and putting away inventory items
• Perform other duties as assigned by the manager

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Phlebotomy experience, preferred
• Ability to read, write, comprehend English, use computers, and process paperwork
• Professional telephone etiquette and effective verbal and written communication skills
• Problem-solving ability in complex situations
• Organizational skills and self-motivation
• Comfortable working with human specimens
• Ability to work assigned shifts
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications
