About the role
The Laboratory Assistant I supports and provides customer service to the clinical laboratory department. This role involves processing specimens, performing waived or moderate testing, and handling clerical duties.
Responsibilities
- Receiving, processing, labeling, and distributing specimens
- Testing specimens (if indicated) according to established protocols
- Communicating with nursing and laboratory staff regarding specimen issues
- Working within the HIS/LIS computer systems
- Performing clerical tasks as necessary
- Assisting in unpacking and putting away inventory items
- Completing training and assisting in inventory management
- Performing other duties as assigned by the manager
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Preferred phlebotomy experience
- Ability to read, write, and understand English
- Proficiency in using computer functions and processing paperwork
- Professional telephone etiquette and effective verbal and written communication skills
- Problem-solving ability in complex situations
- Organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable working with human specimens
- Ability to work assigned shifts
Qualifications

Pay
This job will be authorized for 80.00 hours bi-weekly.
Schedule
M-F 7:30-4:00 week one M-Th 7:30-5:00 F 7:30-1:00
