About the role
The Kokua Soup Kitchen Cook is responsible for running and preparing meals 4 times a week for 100 people, depending on available funding and/or food bank relationships. This position requires a valid driver's license and passing TSA driving restrictions.
Responsibilities
- Prepare large scale and well-balanced meals to feed 100 people.
- Oversee food preparation, serving, and cleaning of the kitchen and dining room.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper temperature in restrooms, kitchen, pantries, freezers, and refrigerators.
- Order and purchase food and kitchen supplies.
- Plan weekly menus and post the meat menu at each meal.
- Serve a vegetarian dish at each meal.
- Complete monthly reports for The Salvation Army, Hawaii Food Bank, and Independent Food Bank.
- Prepare meats in case of an emergency for all EDS needs.
- Coordinate with community agencies, businesses, and churches to provide 1 cooked meal per month.
- Collaborate with ACF of Kauai to ensure all requests and requirements are met.
- Solicit donations of meals and/or food needed in an EDS situation.
- Ensure all donated meals have been cleared/approved with the health department.
- Work flexible hours: 5 hours on Tuesday, 6 hours Wednesday, 5 hours on Thursday and Friday, off Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- A minimum of three years working in a commercial kitchen.
- Knowledge of, and experience in, meal preparation and balanced nutrition.
- Ability to work well with professionals in the community and various populations served.
- Good communication skills, both written and oral.
- A sense of cleanliness, tidiness, and neatness.
- Understanding of The Salvation Army standards, philosophy, and policies and willingness to adhere to them.

Pay
Commensurate with experience.
Schedule
5 Hours on Tuesday, 6 Hours Wednesday, 5 Hours on Thursday and Friday. Off Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
