About The Role

The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) is seeking a Kitchen Supervisor to join our team. This position is responsible for overseeing kitchen operations, training kitchen personnel, and ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule kitchen workload to allow for timely meal preparation, serving, and clean-up.
  • Train and supervise kitchen personnel, including beneficiaries, on proper cooking techniques and food safety.
  • Ensure proper kitchen sanitation standards are maintained.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment in good working condition and schedule repairs as needed.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with food suppliers, including the local Food Bank.
  • Order food consistent with nutritional considerations and within budget restrictions.
  • Manage petty cash for weekly food purchases and follow approved accounting procedures for reimbursement.
  • Work with the Center Administrator for menu planning and special events.
  • Assist with cooking and service as needed and consult with professional staff as necessary.
  • Inform Resident Manager and/or Center Administrator of manpower needs and ensure personnel policies are followed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and establish and enforce safety measures according to TSA Policy and governmental regulations.
  • Oversee personnel during overtime as approved by the Center Administrator.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited food service program.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in institutional cooking with management responsibilities.
  • Valid California drivers license and proof of insurance.

Qualifications

  • Ability to stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in an environment of extreme heat.
  • Ability to see and make visual inspections and read, interpret, and follow recipes.
  • Ability to smell and taste to determine freshness and proper seasoning.
  • Ability to perform various repetitive motion tasks.
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle.

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Experience with inventory management and ordering.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
