Summary

St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School seeks a dedicated Kindergarten teacher to cultivate a love of learning and the Lord in students through Catholic classical education. The school plans to expand to include PK3-7th grade and increase class sections in earlier grade levels.

Position Responsibilities

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic classical education and the school's mission
  • Models Gospel values and adheres to school and Archdiocese policies
  • Maintains confidentiality and ensures safety and well-being of students and others
  • Collaborates with faculty to set instructional goals and methods
  • Develops and implements lessons aligned with Catholic classical curriculum
  • Assists in selecting instructional materials and supervises teacher aides
  • Communicates with parents, students, and colleagues
  • Participates in professional development activities

Planning & Instruction

  • Develops and implements lessons aligned with Catholic classical curriculum
  • Presents subject matter according to Texas Education Agency and DCS guidelines
  • Collaborates with other faculty to determine instructional goals and methods
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning
  • Assists in assigning tasks to teacher aides and volunteers
  • Conducts ongoing assessments and uses results to plan instructional activities

Student Growth & Development

  • Coaches students to develop moral and intellectual virtues
  • Safeguards student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct and handbook
  • Supervises students during non-instructional periods and extracurricular activities
  • Assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned

Communication & Organization

  • Maintains an accurate gradebook and provides narrative evaluations and grades
  • Maintains open communication with parents, students, and colleagues
  • Uses effective communication skills to present information accurately
  • Compiles and files all necessary reports and documents

Professional Development

  • Participates in faculty development activities
  • Serves on staff committees as required
  • Keeps informed of and complies with DCS regulations and policies

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, 2+ years of teaching experience preferred, 12 credit hours in education courses or a valid state certificate
  • Experience: Demonstrated competency in the assigned subject area(s)
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of classical education, strong organizational and communication skills, ability to work independently and on a team
