Kindergarten Class Size Teaching Assistant
Credentials: None required for this position.
Education: High School Diploma or GED; some college hours preferred. All newly hired teacher assistants working at a site supported with Title funds must hold an associate degree, have 2 years of post-secondary education, or be a high school graduate and pass a PARAPRO or OGET test.
Training or experience: Previous work or volunteer experience with children, teenagers, and/or clerical experience preferred.
Reports to: Building Principal. Contract: 175 days. FLSA Classification: Non-exempt.
If recommended for hire, you will be required to apply for Tier 1 certification prior to the start of employment. The certification fee is $12.00, paid directly to the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
Responsibilities
- Assist with instruction and activities for individuals or groups as assigned by the teacher.
- Supervise students in instructional settings, off-campus activities, and during non-instructional activities such as recess, assemblies, emergency drills, and lunch periods; may supervise students in the teacher’s absence.
- Prepare, create, or adapt instructional materials as directed by the teacher; prepare bulletin boards and other teaching aids.
- Assist students with assignments; set up and operate equipment for instructional purposes.
- Serve as the chief source of information and assistance for substitute teachers.
- Assist the teacher with student behavior management strategies; respond appropriately to out-of-control students when necessary; alert the teacher to special needs of students.
- Grade student work; record grades; take attendance; complete necessary paperwork and other records for students.
- May assist students with personal care needs and minor first aid.
- Perform housekeeping duties to ensure the classroom is neat and clean; may assist students in boarding and getting off the bus.
- Operate photocopier, laminator, duplicator, and computer.
- Assist the teacher in obtaining supplies necessary for scheduled activities (e.g., paints, brushes, construction paper, science supplies).
- Assist teachers with compiling students’ work to send home weekly in Thursday folders; send letters home to parents as required.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Help manage the computerization of school district operations; provide training and support to district staff in the use of administrative computer systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Frequent bending, stooping, and occasional to frequent squatting, crouching, reaching above the shoulder, pushing, and pulling.
- Occasional lifting up to 40 pounds to assist with chairs, classroom equipment, and supplies.
- Dexterity to operate keyboards, computers, copy machines, and other office/instructional machines.
- Ability to supervise students in the classroom and outside.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Mobility to navigate the classroom, media center, cafeteria, campus, and assist students with normal activities.
Pay
Salary follows the Teacher's Assistant pay schedule.
