2nd Grade Class Size Teaching Assistant

About the role

This position serves as a paraprofessional in Norman Public Schools, assisting teachers and supervising students.

Responsibilities

• Aid in instruction and activities as directed by teachers.
• Supervise students in various settings including instructional, off-campus, and non-instructional activities.
• Serve as the primary contact for substitute teachers.
• Assist with student behavior management and respond to student needs.
• Provide assistance with special needs such as feeding and personal care.
• Supervise students during transportation and before/after transport.
• Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment through light housekeeping tasks.
• Prepare snacks for students and compile/send home student work.
• Operate various equipment and assist with obtaining supplies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (minimum of 48 hours of college coursework).
• Obtained an associate's degree (or higher).
• Taken and passed the WorkKeys, ParaPro, or Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET).
• Oklahoma Special Education Paraprofessional Certificate required or willing to obtain within 120 days of employment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• College coursework preferred.
• Previous work or volunteer experience with children, teenagers, or clerical duties preferred.
