Jury Bailiff - Clerk of Courts (Hours as Needed)

About the role
This is a casual position with no set hours; flexible availability is ideal. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining a good working relationship with judges, court personnel, attorneys, jurors, and the public while adhering to strict guidelines to ensure juror security during trials.
Schedule
Days: Monday - Friday
Work Hours: 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Hours per shift and shifts per pay period vary.
Responsibilities
- Set up courtroom
- Check-in jurors
- Keep jurors assembled and guide them through court proceedings
- Act as liaison between the courtroom work group and jurors
- Coordinate daily juror activities
- Maintain a good working relationship with judges, court personnel, jurors, and the public
- Ensure knowledge of courtroom procedures
- Keep jurors secure and handle all their needs
- Ensure courtroom proceedings are followed to avoid mistrials
- Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Zero to six months of relevant prior experience
- Proven experience in legal terminology
Skills
- Responds to requests for basic and general information
- Makes decisions within detailed procedures and protocols under close supervision
- Low-complexity problem-solving within established procedures and policies
- Proficiency with typewriter, telephone, copy machine, and FAX machine

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Wisconsin Retirement: Employees expected to work less than 1,200 hours per year will not receive this benefit. If an employee works 1,200 hours, is employed for at least one year, and is not under 20 attending high school full-time, the employee will be expected to pay the employee portion while Walworth County pays the employer-required contributions pursuant to state law.
