About the role
Responsible for providing personal assistance to the judges, juries, and the general public; handles communications between the judge and the jury during trials and hearings. This is a part-time position with a maximum of 24 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Provides personal assistance for judges and juries in the courtroom
- Calls witnesses for legal proceedings in the courtroom
- Escorts jurors from central jury pool to designated courts
- Assists district clerk personnel with jury pool duties
- Locks and unlocks courtroom doors within the courthouse
- Operates a computer
- Other duties as may be assigned
Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- High School diploma required
- Ability to understand and follow instructions, rules, regulations, and laws
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with judges, other law enforcement officers, attorneys, jurors, and the general public
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; bend and kneel; and talk and hear
- Frequently required to stand and walk
- Must frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds, such as books and stacks of records
- Occasionally must lift and/or move objects weighing 100 pounds or more
- May be occasionally called upon to perform acts of intense physical exertion during emergency situations
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus
- Must maintain a professional appearance and perform all duties in a professional manner
