Junior Database Administrator - Fuze Services
Key Responsibilities
- Cloud Infrastructure: Assist in managing AWS RDS instances by monitoring database health, identifying performance issues, and participating in root-cause investigations.
- Production Support: Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24/7 database availability and rapid response to production incidents across our global infrastructure.
- Operational Integrity: Execute quarterly patching, monthly index reviews, and backup integrity testing within a live production environment.
- Development Support: Advance your T-SQL knowledge by participating in code reviews and assisting Developer and TechOps teams with query optimization and execution.
- Automation: Utilize Python, PowerShell, and other scripting languages to build or maintain automation tools (e.g., AWS Lambdas, GitHub Action workflows, etc.).
- Security & Compliance: Manage user permissions, SOPs, and disaster recovery runbooks while helping ensure regulatory framework compliance (including HIPAA, HITRUST, and SOC2) across all database systems.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Experience: 1–3 years in a DBA or Database Support role; must have hands-on exposure to a live, production-level environment.
- SQL Server: Practical experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2019 or newer.
- AWS Environment: Hands-on experience or a solid understanding of AWS core services (RDS, Lambda, State Machines, CloudWatch).
- Scripting: Proficiency in T-SQL; exposure to Python and PowerShell for automation tasks.
- Core Concepts: Strong understanding of ACID properties, indexing, backup/restore strategies, and database security.
- Collaboration & Reliability: Strong communication skills to work closely with distributed DevOps and TechOps teams, alongside a clear commitment to supporting the on-call rotation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or familiarity with automated cloud monitoring tools (Datadog, CloudWatch DMVs).
- Exposure to infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Terraform for RDS) or cloud-native database architectures.
- Experience or familiarity working within compliance-driven, regulated environments (HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC2).
Physical Requirements
- The role includes the ability to work at a computer terminal with monitor, keyboard and mouse for extended periods of time, stoop, bend, and reach for equipment and supplies, make frequent repetitive motions required to operate a computer that include the wrists, hands and fingers, and lift, carry, push, pull, and move light objects up to 20 pounds.
- The role also requires the ability to effectively communicate through verbal interactions, discern auditory information, and visually perceive details to perform essential job functions.
