About the role
This position provides clerical support and customer service to ensure efficient court operations and the integrity of court records. The role involves substantial communication with potential jurors, judges, and court staff via phone, email, and in-person interactions, including regular presentations to large jury groups.
Responsibilities
- Process payments and financial documents, and handle case-related materials such as orders, warrants, motions, complaints, bonds, and exhibits to maintain accurate and efficient court record management.
- Provide in-person and telephone customer service to court users, assisting with general inquiries, payments, and case-processing questions.
- Support attorneys, judges, law enforcement, and other agencies with case information.
- Learn and navigate court record-specific computer programs and technology.
- Communicate professionally in person and on the phone with a variety of court users.
- Maintain accuracy and integrity of court records with keen attention to detail.
- Occasionally travel to other counties within the judicial district.
- Perform routine court operations, including paper and electronic documentation tasks and filing in accordance with established procedures.
- Review, process, update, and publish information, documents, files, orders, warrants, judgment notifications, and other materials for completeness and accuracy.
- Perform basic bookkeeping and accounting tasks, including cashier duties and processing.
- Assist in courtroom preparations, including electronic device setup and digital recording management software use.
- Provide office support such as maintaining organization, equipment, and supplies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma.
- One (1) year of full-time equivalent professional office experience in business support, court, or legal support.
- Experience may be substituted with related education on the basis that successful completion of thirty (30) semester hours or academic equivalent equals one year of experience.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Cash handling and daily balancing experience.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to de-escalate difficult interactions professionally.
- Experience with court or legal process or terminology.
- Ability to confidently communicate with and provide direction to groups of jurors, while effectively managing high-volume juror activity.
- Basic cashier or bookkeeping experience.
- Experience securing confidential information.
Skills
- Familiarity and understanding of court operation support, record keeping, and filing.
- Basic computer database, software, and math skills.

Pay
The pay range for this position is $21.98 - $34.74 per hour. This is a contract-covered, FLSA non-exempt position. The starting salary for new state employees is expected to be at the base of the pay range, with adjustments possible based on relevant experience.
This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, Iowa Council 61, AFL-CIO (AFSCME).
