About the role
The position involves performing entry-level to advanced duties in a judicial assistant capacity. Responsibilities include preparing and processing court cases, maintaining communication with criminal justice agencies, and handling various administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and process case filings, case disposition, and related reports.
- Communicate with agencies associated with the criminal justice system, such as police departments, bail bondsmen, prosecuting attorney offices, defense attorneys, public defenders, adult probation, and county offices.
- Research source documents for relevant data to produce legal papers and court documents.
- Type various reports, memoranda, forms, abstracts, appeals, and other court documents.
- Perform in-court duties under close supervision, including making minute entries, administering oaths, and handling exhibits.
- Handle cash transactions, open and close court, and manage trust accounts.
- Receive and docket notices of appeal, balance and prepare daily deposits, and prepare court records.
Requirements
Essential requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, strong typing skills (45 wpm), and the ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and driving record check. Spanish-speaking is preferred but not mandatory.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent with academic background in general office practices.
- One to four (1-4) years of progressively responsible experience in judicial assistant duties and responsibilities.
- Spanish speaking preferred.
Skills
- Ability to type 45 wpm.
- Extensive knowledge of basic trial process and court administrative procedures.
- Extensive skill in word processing and computer programs such as CORIS, OMS, UCJIS, and Versadex.
- Ability to create and maintain accurate records and follow record retention schedules.
- Effective communication skills both orally and in writing.
- Independent judgment and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Professionalism in the courtroom.

Pay
Hiring ranges are provided for each grade level:
- Judicial Assistant I: $23.94 - $29.28 per hour
- Judicial Assistant II: $25.95 - $31.77 per hour
- Judicial Assistant III: $27.29 - $34.07 per hour
