Journeyman Sheet Metal Mechanic

About the role

Sheetmetal mechanics at Comfort Systems USA Shoffner are skilled professionals responsible for installing ductwork, measuring, laying out fittings, and other related materials in both new and existing commercial construction projects. They work with helpers and apprentices under minimal direct supervision, installing various HVAC and ventilation-related components during commercial construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Work safely at all times
• Understand blueprints and drawings
• Lay out and install commercial duct work in diverse job settings
• Unload, move, and handle commercial-scale duct work
• Properly finish and seal duct work to pass testing
• Help train apprentices
• Work at heights, from ladders, lifts, or roofs
• Assist with installing commercial HVAC equipment

Requirements

• 4+ years of sheet metal installation experience
• A high school diploma or GED
• Must be able to:
• Keep a drug-free workplace
• Be punctual and reliable
• Work as a team
• Work in extreme conditions (heat, cold, bad weather)
• Stand and walk throughout the workday, lifting up to 60 lbs
• Willing to be cross-trained in different trades
• Work in confined spaces
• Perform tasks requiring motor control, good vision, and excellent hand-eye coordination

To qualify, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Physical stamina and strength to perform heavy lifting and repetitive tasks
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and motor skills
• Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments
