Sheet Metal Journeyman
About the role
Sheetmetal mechanics at Comfort Systems USA Shoffner are responsible for installing duct work, measuring, laying out fittings, and other related materials in both new and existing commercial construction projects. They also work with apprentices, providing guidance and training.
Responsibilities
- Work safely at all times
- Understand and follow blueprints and drawings
- Lay out and install commercial duct work in various settings
- Unload, move, and handle commercial-scale duct work
- Properly finish and seal duct work to meet testing requirements
- Help train apprentices
- Work at heights using ladders, lifts, or roofs
- Assist with installing commercial HVAC equipment
Requirements
- 4+ years of sheet metal installation experience
- Ability to show required schooling and hours worked to become a Journeyman
- A High School diploma or GED is required
- Must be able to keep a drug-free workplace
- Be punctual and reliable
- Work as part of a team
- Work in extreme conditions including heat, cold, bad weather, indoors, and outdoors
- Be able to stand and walk throughout the workday and lift/carry up to 60 lbs
- Willingness to be cross-trained in different trades
- Ability to work in confined spaces, above shoulders, crawl, squat, kneel, bend, exercise motor control, with good vision and excellent hand-eye coordination
Qualifications
To qualify, candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. No special certifications are required, but continued education and cross-training opportunities are available.
Skills
Proficiency in commercial duct work installation, blueprint reading, safety protocols, and teamwork skills are essential. Excellent physical stamina and manual dexterity are also required.

Your pay depends on your experience. Annual reviews and pay increases are provided based on performance.
Schedule
Hours may vary depending on project needs, but typically involve a mix of day, evening, and weekend work.
