Sheet Metal Journeyman
About the role
Sheetmetal mechanics at Comfort Systems USA Shoffner are responsible for installing ductwork, measuring, laying out fittings, and other related materials in both new and existing commercial construction projects. They also assist apprentices in learning these skills.
Responsibilities
- Work safely at all times
- Understand blueprints and drawings
- Lay out and install commercial duct work in various settings
- Unload, move, and handle commercial-scale duct work
- Properly finish and seal duct work to meet testing requirements
- Help train apprentices
- Work at heights using ladders, lifts, or roofs
- Assist with installing commercial HVAC equipment
Requirements
- 4+ years of sheet metal installation experience
- Show required schooling and hours worked to become a Journeyman
- A High School diploma or GED is required
- Must be able to keep a drug-free workplace
- Be punctual and reliable
- Work as part of a team
- Work in extreme conditions including heat, cold, bad weather, indoors, and outdoors
- Stand and walk throughout the workday and lift/carry up to 60 lbs
- Willingness to be cross-trained in different trades
- Ability to work in confined spaces, above shoulders, crawl, squat, kneel, bend, exercise motor control, with good vision and excellent hand-eye coordination
