About the role
Support the safe, efficient and cost effective production of electric energy by performing various power plant mechanical tasks.
Responsibilities
- Maintenance and repair of all facilities and equipment at Power Generation sites.
- Performs construction work as necessary to support plant requirements.
- Performs preventive maintenance and provides feedback on follow up work and program improvement.
- Applies and uses predictive maintenance technologies to enhance plant maintenance.
- Diagnoses failures and troubleshoots equipment and systems to improve the maintenance effort.
- C competently operates lifting equipment and applies safe rigging standards.
- C competently and responsibly uses hand and power tools.
- C competently uses precision measuring, portable heating, cutting and welding tools as necessary to effectively perform assigned tasks.
- Safely handles and disposes of hazardous materials and waste according to laws and regulations.
- Employee may be required to perform maintenance on locomotives and other associated railroad equipment.
- Efficiently uses computer technology to operate work management systems, to access work orders, input historical data, report time and order parts.
- Provides training for other facility personnel in identified tasks.
- Performs in a leadership capacity, including assigning, overseeing, directing and taking responsibility for the work of other classifications.
- Maintains effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public.
- Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paper work.
- May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.
Requirements
- Journeyman-level experience in maintenance and repair of GE gas and steam turbines (minimum 5+ years preferred).
- Proven ability to perform major overhauls, inspections, and alignments on GE turbine models.
- Skilled in disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of turbine components including rotors, diaphragms, bearings, and seals.
- Proficient in precision measurements (dial indicators, micrometers, laser alignment tools) and interpretation of tolerances.
- Able to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, vibration, and alignment issues on GE turbine systems.
- Familiarity with OEM standards and specifications for GE turbine maintenance and repair.
- Experience with coupling alignment, bearing clearances, and rotor balancing procedures.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and lockout/tagout procedures in turbine environments.
- Able to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals for GE equipment.
- Willingness to work extended shifts during outages and travel within the Valley region only; must maintain high standards of quality and reliability.
- Specific levels of respirator certification will be determined by job assignment.
Qualifications
- Completion of an appropriate Apprenticeship program or equivalent.
Skills
- Applicable computer technology skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, vibration, and alignment issues on GE turbine systems.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and lockout/tagout procedures in turbine environments.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals for GE equipment.
