Journeyman Carpenter

Facilities and Property Management (FPM) comprises approximately 80 full-time and 60 student employees who work together to maintain over 5 million square feet in downtown Portland. About the role

This position performs journey-level commercial carpentry construction, maintenance, and repair on the interior and exterior areas of campus buildings as part of the In-House Construction crew in Facilities and Property Management (FPM). This is a permanent, full-time position within a team-oriented environment located in downtown Portland.

Responsibilities

• Journey-level commercial carpentry work including form building, rough framing, inside and outside finishing, layout, and blueprint reading.
• Application of safety standards and codes.
• Care and use of tools and woodworking machinery.

Requirements

• Experience as a skilled carpenter, including form building, rough framing, finishing, layout, tool use, blueprint reading, and safety standards; OR completion of a four-year apprenticeship under a skilled carpenter with the same experience.
• Two years of experience working as a journeyman-level carpenter.
• Good communication skills.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Willing and able to wear a half-mask respirator.
• Successful completion of a background check.

Preferred Qualifications

• Five years of experience working at a journeyman carpenter level in commercial construction or a school/institutional environment.
• Experience working both independently and directing non-skilled labor.
• Various equipment operation certifications or licenses.
• HAZMAT training.
• Journeyman card.

Pay

The starting hourly salary for this position is between $25.00 and $30.11, plus a monthly recruitment and retention bonus equal to 10% of the base salary, equating to $27.50 to $33.12 per hour. The final salary will depend on the candidate’s knowledge, experience, skills, and department budget.
