About the role

The DCU Institute of Future Media, Democracy and Society invites applications for a full-time, specified-purpose appointment as a Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher to work on the Provenance project. The post is based at the DCU campus in Dublin and is tenable for 24 months.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of research work packages related to providing verification assistance for new content.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, including interviews, surveys, and content analysis.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day running of the project, including liaison with project partners and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of project findings through academic publications, reports, and presentations.
  • Supervise and mentor junior researchers and PhD students working on related topics.
  • Engage with policy-makers, journalists, and civil society organisations to translate research findings into practice.

Requirements

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline such as Communication Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Media Studies, or a related field.
  • A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting independent research projects.
  • Expertise in research methods, including both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Qualifications

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Experience with grant writing and securing research funding.
  • Knowledge of media and democracy issues, disinformation, digital media, or related areas.
  • A track record of engaging with non-academic stakeholders and disseminating research to wider audiences.

Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, NVivo, R, Python) as appropriate.
  • Ability to manage and analyse large datasets.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Capacity to produce high-quality written reports and publications under tight deadlines.
