Joint Venture Accountant
About the role
We are seeking a talented Senior Joint Venture Accountant to join a collaborative accounting organization supporting a growing and dynamic energy business. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountant who wants more than a narrowly defined accounting desk. The position offers exposure across multiple accounting functions, interaction with internal business teams and external partners, and the opportunity to help improve and modernize accounting processes. Candidates with direct oil & gas joint venture/JIB experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Responsibilities
- Perform monthly Joint Interest Billing (JIB) close activities, including transaction review, cost allocation, partner billing and cash calls.
- Review and process non-operated JIB invoices.
- Support ownership records, working-interest changes, property transfers, revenue and expense decks and division-of-interest activity.
- Monitor AFEs, budgets, partner elections and related accounting activity.
- Analyze actual costs against approved AFE budgets and investigate significant variances.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, allocations and account reconciliations.
- Communicate with external partners regarding billing, ownership, audit and other accounting matters.
- Research and resolve accounting and partner-billing discrepancies.
- Support and coordinate joint venture audits.
- Analyze operating costs, capital expenditures and partner balances.
- Support monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting as well as internal and external audits.
- Assist with SEC reporting support, including 10-K/10-Q tie-outs.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls and efficiency.
- Participate in system, automation and technology initiatives.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Strong accounting fundamentals and understanding of accounting and auditing principles.
- Relevant professional accounting experience.
- Oil & gas/E&P accounting experience is highly valued but not required for an exceptional candidate with strong transferable experience.
- Experience with joint venture accounting, JIB, JOAs, COPAS and/or AFEs is a plus.
- External audit experience is highly valued, particularly experience involving controls, investigation, documentation and complex accounting processes.
- CPA preferred but not required.

Schedule
This position is based in Houston, Texas, near the Energy Corridor. The team operates on a hybrid schedule with three days per week in the office (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) and remote work on Wednesday and Friday. Typical business hours are approximately 8:00 AM–5:00
