About the role

The J-Z AMP Program Supervisor oversees the day-to-day supervision and coordination of the program's operations at the Wakeman Boys & Girls Club – Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse, reporting to the Senior Program Director.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the program, Monday through Friday from 3:30 PM to 6 PM.
  • Meet bi-weekly with the Senior Mentor Coordinator and Manager of Community Partnerships to coordinate program planning and serve as the primary liaison to the University.
  • Monitor daily bus arrival/departure after school, ensuring student attendance, boarding, and communication with drivers regarding new enrollees.
  • Collaborate with Wakeman staff and the Senior Mentor Coordinator to manage the daily schedule.
  • Handle daily paperwork, including attendance sheets and behavior logs.
  • Provide weekly attendance reports to the Senior Mentor Coordinator.
  • Communicate with parents about behavior issues, absences, and other related concerns.
  • Assist in the preparation of tutoring materials (e.g., photocopies, organizing binders).
  • Coordinate communication between Cesar Batalla teachers/staff and Wakeman BGC.
  • Distribute flyers and follow up with teachers/students to ensure enrollment during recruitment cycles.
  • Support retention and engagement by monitoring attendance, reaching out to students with inconsistent participation, and implementing strategies to re-engage those struggling with program involvement.
  • Assist with recruitment, training, and supervision of J-Z AMP mentors.
  • Coordinate transportation for J-Z AMP mentors as needed.
  • Assist with monitoring, evaluation, and collection of data for the annual grant report (e.g., Wakeman staff and mentor surveys).
  • Coordinate logistics for field trips and/or other periodic events (1-2 per year).

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of experience managing, developing, or delivering youth educational programming (e.g., teaching, counseling, mentoring) and/or experience working with university students.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., education, social work).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a strong plus.
  • Strong leadership skills and highly collaborative; affinity for working with people and on teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and cultures.
  • Ability to take initiative, think creatively, and seek the information needed to address challenges.

Pay

Hourly rate: $23.00–25.00/hr.

Schedule

  • Up to 12.5 hours per week during weeks when Bridgeport Public Schools are in session.
  • Program hours: Monday–Friday, 3:30–6:00 PM at the Wakeman Boys & Girls Club – Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse.
  • Additional 1–2 hours of weekly office time for meetings, trainings, and check-ins with supervisor.
