IT System Administrator - Journey
About the role
This position reports to the Director of Computing Infrastructure and provides support for email system management, maintenance, and configuration, automating system processes, and ensuring the functionality of all servers on campus.
Responsibilities
- Creates, configures, implements, and maintains virtual and physical Windows and Linux servers.
- Works with the CIO and other system administrators to develop data storage and disaster recovery strategies and monitor cyber security of systems.
- Recommends in developing standards for implementing software and hardware for network servers.
- Implements, Upgrades, configures, and maintains e-mail systems: Microsoft (MS) Office 365, and MS Exchange.
- Works with other departments providing server and application support for Authentication, phone, and environment controls.
- Routinely verifies system status and performance, effectively fine tuning systems as needed.
- Performs as Essential Personnel for emergencies and off hours support.
- Supports the current Amazon Web Services (AWS) server/file backup system for retention and disaster recovery.
- Communicates and coordinates with other senior technical staff to permanently resolve recurring or common issues; escalates to management when appropriate.
- Provides assistance and training on Exchange 365 and server applications to lower-level technicians.
- Works with other system administrators and the supervisor on the creation of security policy for all network servers.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in system administration – documented experience focusing on Windows, Active Directory, and Linux environments, including application support.
- Experience in Microsoft Office 365, Active Directory, Exchange, and VEEAM/AWS backup solutions.
- Experience in endpoint device management configuration and compliance via Intune.
- Expertise in SCCM and endpoint image creation and management.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, network infrastructure, and disaster recovery planning.
- Knowledge of identity management principles, MFA, Conditional Access, and Entra ID Connect.
Benefits
This is a full-time classified position scheduled to work 40 hours a week, with a salary range of $85,764 - $115,344 annually. All classified positions will start their salary at Step A, when you have completed six months of probation, you will receive a 5 percent pay increase. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Washington Public Employees Associate (WPEA) Union.
