IT Student - OJT

About the role

The role of the IT student is to provide desktop support. The individual is responsible for troubleshooting hardware and software, managing equipment inventory, resolving incidents, and meeting customer satisfaction and continuous service delivery demands. Support staff work in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment providing service over the phone, through remote access, and in person.

Responsibilities

• First point of contact for IT issues, logging, prioritizing, and resolving technical support tickets.
• Assist, complete, or escalate incident tickets for computers and phones.
• Create, test, and image devices.
• Create and update IT documentation, knowledge‑base articles, and user manuals.
• Manage small projects, including adding, moving, and changing equipment.
• Work with other teams to resolve issues.
• Attend meetings as necessary.

Qualifications

• Currently studying Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Familiar with operating systems (Windows, macOS), basic networking concepts, and standard office productivity suites.
• Ability to logically solve problems with an aptitude for technology.
• Exceptional attention to detail when solving computer system issues.
• Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
• Excellent verbal communication skills when interacting with others.
• Self‑motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Excellent written communication for creating reports and documenting issues.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lb.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to work from ladders, stoop, bend, and push or pull carts and equipment.
• Must be able to stand or walk for long periods and respond quickly to incidents.
• Ability to remain calm and composed during emergencies or high‑pressure situations.

OSHA Exposure Classification

• May come in contact with electrical systems while performing tasks.
• May come in contact with water while performing tasks.
• Risk of exposure to communicable diseases while performing tasks.
