IT Operations Technician – Mainframe (Overnight)

About the role

The Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) is seeking a Systems Command Center Technician to join our dynamic team. This position serves as a journey level enterprise system and network operations control worker, responsible for monitoring, operating, and controlling systems and peripheral devices.

Responsibilities

• Maintain availability and status of resources by monitoring mainframe systems and logging and responding to system issues.
• Resolve system and server failures by contacting on-call staff and following standard operational processes, procedures, and checklists.
• Stay updated on IT developments through continuous learning and participation in training sessions.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including system startups, shutdowns, and system dumps.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of related data processing experience.
• Experience monitoring enterprise mainframe computer systems in a multi-platform environment.
• Knowledge of mainframe operational system commands and ability to document incidents and update tickets.
• Ability to analyze data and resolve system errors and interruptions.
• Effective communication skills to present technical information to diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• One year of professional experience monitoring enterprise mainframe computer systems.
• Working knowledge of mainframe operational system commands.
• Ability to analyze and evaluate problems of an operational or procedural nature.
• Ability to work outside of normal hours and travel as needed.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
