About the role
The IT Manager – Revenue Cycle, Ambulatory & Patient Engagement directs the operations of Information Technology impacting revenue cycle, patient access, patient engagement, and ambulatory services. In this high-impact leadership role, you will shape the technology infrastructure that drives exceptional patient care—leading talented teams, forging strong partnerships with clinical and operational leaders, and delivering innovative IT solutions across Covenant HealthCare and its affiliate facilities. Revenue Cycle includes Hospital and Outpatient Registration, Scheduling, Claims, Billing, Health Information Management, Coding, Clinical Documentation Improvement and Finance.
Responsibilities
- Manage department capital and operating budget.
- Assign the right people to the right projects at the right time and monitor resource utilization to ensure productivity and address capacity issues.
- Manage and monitor service and support requests to meet established service level agreements.
- Serve as escalation point for service and support issues requiring leadership support.
- Responsible for hiring and organizational structure for areas under management.
- Support the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values through demonstrated actions and leadership, focusing staff on strategic plan commitments.
- Shape and champion the technology roadmap across revenue cycle, ambulatory, patient access, and patient engagement for both Covenant and Affiliate Facilities, positioning IT as a strategic driver of organizational growth.
- Stay ahead of emerging healthcare IT trends and industry advancements, bringing innovative ideas to keep Covenant at the forefront of digital health.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service and actively contribute to organization-wide success targets—driving measurable improvements in quality, employee engagement, patient satisfaction, and net operating margin.
- Promote collaboration, cooperation, and teamwork across departments.
- Oversee IT systems supporting revenue cycle operations including billing, coding, claims processing, and financial reporting to ensure accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.
- Lead the strategy and management of the ambulatory Epic system, ensuring alignment with clinical workflows, regulatory requirements, and organizational goals across all ambulatory and outpatient settings.
- Direct patient access technology solutions including scheduling, registration, eligibility verification, and pre-authorization systems to optimize the patient intake experience and reduce barriers to care.
- Drive patient engagement technology platforms supporting patient communication, portal utilization, appointment reminders, and care coordination to improve the overall patient experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years leading projects and/or individuals or two (2) years of leadership experience required.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience with Epic EMR applications, including hands-on build and configuration experience preferred.
Skills
- Strong understanding of healthcare revenue cycle workflows, ambulatory operations, patient access processes, and patient engagement strategies.
- Knowledge of patient engagement tools and platforms (e.g., patient portals, secure messaging, automated outreach) and their role in improving access, satisfaction, and care outcomes.
- Proven experience managing multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Solid technical background with understanding and/or hands-on experience in software and web technologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to partner effectively with clinical, operational, and executive stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently as well as in small or large teams.
- Ability to resolve problems timely and effectively, with strong information probing skills to understand underlying needs and roadblocks.
- Approachable and able to deal positively with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Sound decision-making ability and ability to protect and maintain the confidential nature of information.
