About the Role

The IT Support / Help Desk Intern will assist with IT technology operations, providing hands-on support for maintenance and user support tickets.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of AV equipment, video conferencing tools, and presentation technologies.
  • Familiarity with Windows, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, or similar productivity tools.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to troubleshoot computer problems.
  • Ability to install, maintain, and troubleshoot printers.
  • Ability to anticipate potential concerns and address these with supervisor.
  • Ability to organize and manage an extensive workload.
  • Basic technical documentation skills.
  • Attention to detail in inventory and equipment management.
  • Experience with Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2016; Office 365 is a plus.
  • Help Desk and/or technical support experience.
  • Inventory management and organization of technical equipment.
  • Hands-on experience supporting AV technology in a professional environment.

Requirements

  • A criminal background check process and a physical examination, including a TB skin test or chest X-ray, are required before employment commences due to responsibilities associated with working with children.

Responsibilities

  • Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, set up functions, or process information.
  • Communicating with supervisors, peers, or staff by telephone, in written form, email, or in person in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Maintaining backup systems to ensure files are protected in catastrophic situations (e.g., fire, theft).
  • Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Maintain PCs, printers, and other related equipment.
  • Perform basic routine maintenance of hardware.
  • Confer with users to discuss issues such as computer data access needs, security violations, and programming changes.
  • Assist in safeguarding computer files against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure and meet emergency data processing needs.
  • Document computer security and emergency measures, procedures, and tests.
  • Monitor current reports of computer viruses to determine when to update virus protection systems.
  • Monitor use of data files and regulate access to safeguard information in computer files.
  • Review violations of computer security procedures and discuss procedures with supervisor to ensure violations are not repeated.
  • Conduct computer diagnostics to determine the nature of problems.
  • Evaluate computer system user requirements.
  • Install electronic equipment, components, or systems.
  • Provide technical support to computer users.
  • Read and understand computer equipment operating manuals.
  • Learn video conferencing and A/V procedures and act as a backup for that operation.
  • Maintain a professional posture, attitude, and appearance in all job-related activities.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with others by responding promptly and constructively to requests, resolving conflicts immediately, and cooperating fully to meet departmental objectives.
  • Display appropriate work habits including, but not limited to: keeping appointments, good attendance, punctuality, appropriate dress, returning messages, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

  • Frequently moving between work locations.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend hours for special events/meetings.
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 25 lbs of IT supplies and assist with A/V setup.
