Maintain and troubleshoot communication systems
Maintaining and troubleshooting communication systems that support power plants, mountain-top sites, and other mission-critical facilities.
Installing and improving field-based technical assets, addressing design gaps, and modifying designs to improve reliability.
Responding to outages and supporting disaster recovery efforts by rerouting traffic and restoring services quickly and safely.
Coordinating with third-party vendors and partners when issues require escalation or specialized support.
Supporting a wide geographic area alongside other technicians to ensure safe coverage and timely response.
Helping protect critical infrastructure by supporting physical security systems and compliance with security protocols.
Qualifications
- Experience supporting enterprise communication systems in a field or plant environment.
- Working knowledge of technologies such as microwave links, fiber backbones, radio systems, and related network equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex issues, adapt designs in the field, and respond calmly during outages or emergencies.
- Strong collaboration skills, including coordinating with vendors and internal partners.

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge Or Qualifications
- Proven experience working on all types of supervisory equipment used by APS.
- Experience in designing, installing, configuring, and implementing public safety microwave radio systems and implementing large scale complex IP networks.
- Knowledge of the functionality of control schematics.
- Demonstrated experience in substation design concepts/practices relating to substation control.
- Familiarity with electronic circuit fundamentals.
- Demonstrated personal computer skills including working knowledge of both hardware fundamentals and software applications.
- Ability to interpret schematic diagrams and troubleshoot to component level.
- Knowledge to transition to legacy communication to Next Generation Network and Radion equipment.
- Specific knowledge of TCP/IP, network design, network security, propagation, and point to point radio operation using ethernet over microwave.
- Familiarity with MPLS or other network convergence technologies.
- Familiarity with FCC regulations and standards for licensing microwave paths.
- Understanding basic electronics, electrical power systems, the basics of the 7 layers of the OSI model and in-depth knowledge and experience in RF.
- Ability to coordinate and provide direct oversight to Vendor and 3rd party support and other activities within their area of responsibility (AOR).
- Ability to train and mentor junior level staff and perform as SME of all equipment that resides within their AOR.
- Ability to work 24/7 in support of Enterprise Network systems and Public Safety Communication Systems, including nights, weekends and holidays.
Major Accountabilities
- Install, assemble, design repairs, adjust, test, and maintain telecommunications equipment such as wired and wireless telecommunications systems devices, microwave, IP Networks, Radio Frequency (RF) Communications systems, Voice & Data communications, VoIP, Cameras, Wi-Fi, fiber optics, WAN/FAN/LAN technologies, all of which make up the Next Generation Network.
- Troubleshoots and design repairs on a wide variety of computer aided telecommunications devices such as Portable/Mobile and Radio Repeaters, radio dispatch consoles, electronic and electro-mechanical equipment, SCADA systems, Fiber, DWDM, telemetry and GPS systems, wired and wireless network equipment.
- Regularly use diagnostic software for localizing equipment and system problems, specialized testing equipment such as communications analyzers, digital oscilloscopes, Radio Service Monitors, digital multimeters, cable verifier, spectrum analyzers, frequency counters and RF power meters.
- Performs remote/Centralized management of systems through Management software.
- Install, repair and maintain Carrier Class Digital Microwave (MW), and Radio Frequency (RF) Data Link equipment.
