IT Clinical Pharmacist

About the Role

The IT Clinical Pharmacist serves as a licensed pharmacist resource supporting the implementation of IT projects within Covenant Health. This role leverages pharmacist expertise and operational knowledge to build and maintain clinical application systems, ensuring patient-safety centered medication delivery processes. The position requires local travel and adherence to policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide expertise in pharmaceutical, pharmacokinetic, and pharmacodynamic rules for IT project implementation and maintenance.
• Build patient-safety centered medication delivery processes in clinical application systems.
• Develop decision support notices for physicians during order entry to ensure clinical relevance.
• Drive standardization of pharmacy departments’ clinical and distributive functions to ensure quality and safe continuum of care across the healthcare system.
• Link projects with medication safety practices and coordinate process efforts.
• Maintain consistent communication with physicians and clinicians regarding clinical efficacy and therapeutics in medication delivery.
• Assist in training, promotion, and implementation of IT projects.
• Bridge communication between facility pharmacies’ daily operations and critical decisions in application development, build, and implementation.
• Complete required education assignments annually and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Three to five (3-5) years of hospital experience in a management or “super-user” position.
• Pharmacist licensed in Tennessee with Cerner/Oracle Millennium experience (informatics/computer experience is a plus but not required).
• Must hold a valid Tennessee pharmacist license or obtain one within 6 months of employment.
• Valid driver’s license (Class D) with state-mandated minimum insurance coverage; driving record must meet Covenant Health standards.

Schedule

Part-time, 32 hours per pay period (3 to 4 days per pay period), day shift.
