IT/AV Support Specialist - PART-TIME
About the role
The IT/AV Support Specialist at Edelman Fossil Park & Museum plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the museum’s IT/AV infrastructure and ensuring the successful presentation of media-based digital content across the museum’s exhibitions, programs, and events. This position bridges technical expertise with creative collaboration, teamwork, and support. Reporting to the IT/AV Manager, this position provides technical support to museum staff, volunteers, and visitors while managing critical IT/AV systems, security protocols, digital exhibits, and public and private events.
Responsibilities
- Provide MAC/PC technical support for museum staff, volunteers, and visitors regarding hardware, software, and network-related issues.
- Install, configure, and maintain computer systems, printers, and peripherals.
- Aid employees with email access, file management, and software-related inquiries.
- Liaison to Managed Service Provider (MSP): Coordinate IT support requests and escalate unresolved issues, ensuring timely resolution of IT issues.
- Maintain and troubleshoot interactive digital exhibits, VR experience equipment, and programming, touchscreen displays, ticketing kiosk systems, and RFID technology.
- Ensure seamless integration between museum networks and interactive installations, perform regular system checks, and coordinate with multiple vendors for software updates and hardware repairs.
- Troubleshoot and identify bugs, and future-proof systems.
- Provide IT/AV support for educational programs, lectures, and private museum events, set up and troubleshoot audio-visual equipment, microphones, cameras, projectors, and streaming technologies.
- Ensure all IT/AV client requirements are met for museum rentals, corporate events, and fundraisers, coordinate with external vendors and event planners to ensure smooth technology integration and production, operate AV/IT equipment during live events, lectures, and performances as needed, including Yamaha Audio Board, Shure Wireless Microphones, 4K Video Cameras, Blackmagic Video Switchers, Video Encoders, PTZ Controllers, Livestream Hardware, Video Encoders/Decoders, Livestream / Multicamera Live Switch Environments, WebEx, Zoom, Teams, Google Meet Conferencing Software Implementation & Monitoring.
- Maintain an inventory of IT/AV assets, including computers, mobile devices, and software licenses, plan and oversee hardware/software upgrades and coordinate IT/AV related purchases, routine maintenance & scheduling of equipment & systems.
- Evaluate and recommend technology solutions to enhance museum operations, stay informed about emerging technologies to optimize museum IT/AV systems.
- Create and update SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), daily reports / checklists, project tracking, event workflows.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT, Audio-Visual Technology, Media Production, or related field preferred, or equivalent work experience. Relevant certificates acceptable.
- 1–3 years of experience in IT/AV installation or technical support, preferably in a museum, gallery, or live performing arts environment.
- Live AV Event Experience.
- Proficient in using and troubleshooting IT/AV systems & equipment.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team.
- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends for special events.
- Proficiency in Windows and Mac desktop support.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts, including LAN, Wi-Fi, TCP/IP, and DHCP.
- Experience with system and user administration, including Google Workspace and Google Admin.

Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with digital media formats and content delivery platforms.
- Experience with AV networking and IP-based media systems.
- Knowledge of digital video editing, playback software (e.g., VLC, BrightSign, Davinci, Vmix, OBS, Adobe Creative Cloud), and basic programming of AV control systems.

Work Setting
The museum headquarters is in the stunning new Edelman Fossil Park Museum. The headquarters suite features a reception area, private offices, a large open office area, three conference rooms, a kitchenette, team lounge, and outdoor patio, overlooking a 4-acre lake. This is a Part-Time position with G&A Museum Operation, LLC, based at the Edelman Fossil Park & Museum, in Mantua Township, NJ. The role requires evening or weekend work for special events. The role may require occasional work outdoors. The role may require lifting or moving light to moderately heavy objects.
