Invoice Processing Clerk

About the role

Seeking an experienced attorney, claims professional, or litigation cost management specialist to review, audit, and edit outside counsel invoices. This role focuses on legal bill review, compliance with billing guidelines, and cost containment across litigation matters, including premises liability, motor vehicle accidents, and general liability.

Location: Remote; EST preferred.

Contract: 3+ months, with potential to extend; Start date: ASAP.

Responsibilities

• Review and audit outside counsel invoices for accuracy and compliance.
• Identify excessive, duplicative, administrative, vague, block-billed, or non-compliant charges.
• Evaluate staffing levels and timekeeper utilization.
• Recommend billing reductions and invoice edits.
• Identify legal spend trends and cost-saving opportunities.
• Communicate with outside counsel regarding billing issues and revisions.
• Maintain detailed audit records and generate legal spend reports.
• Partner with legal and claims teams to support consistent billing practices.

Requirements

• Licensed attorney with litigation experience or significant experience reviewing and auditing outside counsel invoices.
• Experience applying litigation billing guidelines and legal spend management practices.
• Strong understanding of litigation activities and legal billing practices in New York.
• Experience with premises liability, motor vehicle accident, and/or general liability matters.
• Ability to identify unreasonable, duplicative, excessive, or non-compensable charges.
• Excellent analytical and attention-to-detail skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
• Experience with legal bill review or matter management systems.

Qualifications

• Senior claims adjuster experience with outside counsel billing.
• Experience with electronic billing/invoice review platforms.
• Background in legal operations, litigation management, insurance claims, or legal spend management.

Pay

$80.00 - $85.00 per hour

Schedule

Flexible, up to 30-35 hours per week
