About the role

The International Trade Mid-Level Associate position is available in any of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP's Southern California offices: San Diego (Downtown), San Diego (Del Mar), Los Angeles, Century City, or Orange County. Preference is given to applicants based in or willing to relocate to Orange County, Los Angeles, or Century City.

Responsibilities

  • Support the International Trade team in addressing clients' sanctions, export, import, anti-bribery, and foreign investment issues.
  • Practice before U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS); U.S. Department of State, Directorate of Defense trade Controls (DDTC); U.S. Department of Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC); U.S. Customs and Border Protection; U.S. Import Administration; U.S. International Trade Commission; and CFIUS.
  • Work on a full scope of international trade matters including export controls (EAR, ITAR), foreign investment reviews (CFIUS), economic sanctions and embargoes, customs law, international trade agreements, antidumping and countervailing duties (AD/CVD).

Requirements

  • At least 5 to 7 years of international trade law experience, preferably with a large law firm or a relevant government agency.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.

Qualifications

  • Required: Admitted to and a member in good standing of the California bar.

Skills

  • Experience with export controls (Export Administration Regulations and International Traffic in Arms Regulations) (EAR, ITAR)
  • Experience with foreign investment reviews (CFIUS)
  • Experience with economic sanctions and embargoes
  • Experience with customs law
  • Experience with international trade agreements
  • Experience with antidumping and countervailing duties (AD/CVD)

Pay

The salary range for this position is $310,000 - $390,000.
