Job Responsibilities
- Initiate correspondence and/or conducts interviews with claimants, employers, and/or other stakeholders via telephone, mail, fax, and electronic methods.
- Utilize appropriate agency standards, handbooks, and software systems when making claims analysis and making administrative adjustments.
- Issue determinations in accordance with Benefit Timeliness Quality (BTQ) standards, SC Codes of Laws, SC regulations, and UI Division policy and guidelines.
- Provide ongoing support, assistance, and guidance to other UI positions as workload dictates as provided for by Career Pathways.
- Exercise judgment and discretion.
- Effectively communicate clearly in written and oral form.
- Interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Job Description
We are seeking an Unemployment Insurance (UI) Examiner to join our UI operations team. This team administers South Carolina’s unemployment insurance claims processes. The UI Examiner will:
- Initiate correspondence and/or conduct interviews with claimants, employers, and/or other stakeholders via various methods.
- Use appropriate agency standards, handbooks, and software systems for claims analysis and administrative adjustments.
- Issue determinations based on Benefit Timeliness Quality (BTQ) standards, SC Codes of Laws, SC regulations, and UI Division policy and guidelines.
- Offer ongoing support, assistance, and guidance to other UI positions as needed.
- Exercise judgment and discretion.
- Communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral forms.
- Interpret and apply laws, rules, and regulations governing UI Benefits.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
- A bachelor's degree and 1+ year relevant experience.
- 4+ years of demonstratable experience processing claims, adjudicating, issuing administrative determinations, auditing, or similar activities may be substituted for the bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, and regulations governing UI Benefits.
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion while adhering to applicable policies and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly, promptly, and effectively in both written and oral forms.
