INTERNAL POSTING - UI Examiner - Statewide

About the role

The South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) is seeking an Unemployment Insurance (UI) Examiner to join the UI operations team. This role is responsible for administering South Carolina’s unemployment insurance claims processes, issuing non-monetary decisions, and supporting a team.

Job Responsibilities

• Initiate correspondence and/or conduct interviews with claimants, employers, and other stakeholders via telephone, mail, fax, and electronic methods.
• Utilize appropriate agency standards, handbooks, and software systems when analyzing claims and making administrative adjustments.
• Issue determinations in accordance with Benefit Timeliness Quality (BTQ) standards, SC Codes of Laws, SC regulations, and UI Division policy and guidelines.
• Provide ongoing support, assistance, and guidance to other UI positions as workload dictates as provided for by Career Pathways.
• Exercise judgment and discretion.
• Effectively communicate clearly in written and oral form.
• Interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree and 1+ year relevant experience, or 4+ years of demonstratable experience processing claims, adjudicating, issuing administrative determinations, auditing, or similar activities may be substituted for the bachelor's degree.

Qualifications

• Ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, and regulations that govern the administration of UI Benefits.
• Ability to exercise judgment and discretion while complying with applicable policies and procedures.
• Ability to communicate clearly, timely, and effectively in written and oral form.
