Intern/Co-op - HES&S Safety and Industrial Hygiene (Fall 2027)
About the role
Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) offers internship and co‑op opportunities to high‑performing college students who want meaningful hands‑on experiences in their fields of study. Interns/co‑ops work side‑by‑side with experienced professionals as contributing members of diverse work teams that create value for the company’s shareholders. The role supports safety and industrial hygiene across all business areas, including Refining; Midstream Crude Oil & Products Logistics; Midstream Natural Gas & Natural Gas Liquids Services; and Occupational & Environmental Hygiene.
Responsibilities
- Conduct facility audits and assist with employee training programs.
- Support industrial hygiene activities and equipment maintenance.
- Participate in health, safety, and security projects, including incident investigations and emergency preparedness and response.
- Assist with governmental inspections and ensure compliance with government regulations.
- Act as an agency liaison with other Marathon business units.
- Prepare and submit reports for assigned projects.
Qualifications
- Major in Occupational Safety & Health, Safety Management, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability, Fire Protection & Safety, or a related field.
- Concurrent enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) for the duration of the internship.
- Strong academic performance.
- Available to work on‑site 40 hours per week.
- Ability to safely ascend/descend multiple flights of stairs or ladders and lift or carry items up to 50 lb.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for work‑related travel.
- Authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.
- Availability for multiple work terms is preferred.
Pay
Minimum $24.09 per hour – Maximum $35.96 per hour.
