Intern/Co-op - HES&S Safety and Industrial Hygiene (Fall 2027)

Overview

Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) offers internship and co‑op opportunities to high‑performing college students seeking meaningful, hands‑on experience in their field of study. Interns/co‑ops work side‑by‑side with experienced professionals as contributing members of diverse work teams that create value for the company’s shareholders. Responsibilities

• Support safety and industrial hygiene across business areas including Refining, Midstream Crude Oil & Products Logistics, Midstream Natural Gas & Natural Gas Liquids Services, and Occupational & Environmental Hygiene.
• Assist with health, safety, and security planning and compliance activities.
• Conduct facility audits and participate in employee training programs.
• Perform industrial hygiene tasks and equipment maintenance.
• Contribute to health, safety, and security projects, incident investigations, and emergency preparedness and response.
• Engage with governmental inspections and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Act as an agency liaison with other Marathon business units.
• Prepare and submit reports for assigned projects.

Qualifications

• Majors such as Occupational Safety & Health, Safety Management, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability, Fire Protection & Safety, or related fields.
• Concurrent enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) for the duration of the internship.
• Strong academic performance.
• Availability to work on‑site 40 hours per week.
• Ability to safely ascend/descend multiple flights of stairs or ladders and lift or carry items up to 50 lb.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for work‑related travel.
• Authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.
• Preference for candidates available for multiple work terms.

Pay

Hourly rate: $24.09 – $35.96 per hour.
