Overview

Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) offers internship and co‑op opportunities to high‑performing college students seeking meaningful, hands‑on experience in environmental, health, safety, and security (HES&S) areas. Interns work side‑by‑side with experienced professionals across Refining, Midstream Crude Oil & Products Logistics, and Midstream Natural Gas & Natural Gas Liquids Services, contributing to the company’s core values of safety, integrity, inclusion, collaboration, and excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and/or develop company environmental policies and guidelines; create methods and procedures for implementation and conformance.
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance in organizing and establishing programs and procedures to implement and administer requirements, including budget inputs; monitor compliance and deliver related reports and recommendations.
  • Design and/or review engineering designs and cost estimates for environmental equipment/systems; determine engineering specifications and recommend equipment as needed.
  • Identify and investigate current and developing environmental problems or issues, determine causes, initiate preventive steps, and provide recommendations to senior management.
  • Stay current on environmental legislation, regulatory agency actions, and international standards; assist with legislative and regulatory impact assessments, submit required reports, and obtain necessary permits.
  • Develop environmental information, manuals, training material, and programs; inform employees of related policies and procedures and conduct training sessions.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Science.
  • Concurrent enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program for the duration of the internship.
  • Strong academic performance.
  • Available to work on‑site 40 hours per week.
  • Ability to safely ascend and descend multiple flights of stairs or ladders and lift or carry items weighing up to 50 lb.
  • Valid driver’s license for work‑related travel and reliable transportation to and from the workplace.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Availability for multiple work terms is preferred.

Pay

Minimum $24.09 per hour, maximum $43.23 per hour.
