Intern/Co-op - HES&S Environmental (Spring 2027)
Overview
Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) offers internship and co‑op opportunities to high‑performing college students seeking meaningful, hands‑on experience. Interns and co‑ops work side‑by‑side with experienced professionals as contributing members of diverse work teams that create value for shareholders. Environmental interns/co‑ops support all areas of the business, including Refining; Midstream Crude Oil & Products Logistics (Logistics & Storage); and Midstream Natural Gas & Natural Gas Liquids Services. The program provides training in various Health, Environmental, Safety & Security (HES&S) subject areas and is guided by MPC’s core values of safety, integrity, inclusion, collaboration, and excellence.
Responsibilities
- Interpret and/or develop company environmental policies and guidelines; create methods and procedures to ensure conformance.
- Provide guidance and technical assistance in organizing and establishing programs and procedures, including budget inputs, and monitor compliance with policies.
- Design and/or review engineering designs and cost estimates for environmental equipment/systems; determine specifications and recommend equipment as needed.
- Identify and investigate current and developing environmental problems, determine causes, initiate preventive steps, and communicate recommendations to senior management.
- Stay current on environmental legislation, regulatory agency actions, and international standards; assist with legislative and regulatory impact assessments, submit required reports, and obtain permits.
- Develop environmental information, manuals, training material, and programs; inform employees of related policies and conduct training sessions.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Science.
- Concurrent enrollment in a Bachelor’s program for the duration of the internship.
- Strong academic performance.
- Available to work on‑site 40 hours per week.
- Ability to safely ascend/descend multiple flights of stairs or ladders and lift or carry items up to 50 lb.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for work‑related travel.
- Authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.
- Availability for multiple work terms is preferred.
Pay
Hourly rate ranges from $24.09 to $43.23, depending on experience and qualifications.
